Huge gator out for a stroll in Florida neighborhood
A woman and her son remained in the safety of their car when they spotted this gator roaming around Cape Coral

CAPE CORAL, FL -- The town of Cape Coral, Florida, is abuzz, after a huge alligator was seen sauntering toward some homes there.

Rita Sanchez and her 12-year-old son Edwin spotted this monster gator up close and personal. They snapped video and photos from inside the safety of their car.

Officer Stuart Spoede with the Florida Wildlife Commission explained, "That looks like a healthy full grown gator, and it looked like it had a full belly."

He says a male gator can grow up to 15 feet, and a female up to 10 feet. It's hard to tell if this is male or female, but Spoede estimates it's at least 15 years old.

"Normally they'll move around throughout the storm drain so you don't see them walking across on land, but they do, it's not uncommon for them," he said.

The monster gator eventually made its way into a canal, but not before freaking out the neighbors.
