Delaware family searching for missing tortoise: Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30 p.m. on July 5, 2017.

CLAYMONT, Del. (WPVI) -- A Delaware family has launched a viral search for Sheldon - their missing tortoise.

She's been with Jennifer Leathern's family for 25 years.

Sheldon often goes out in to the backyard, but wandered away a little over a week ago.

Thanks to a big social media push, Sheldon has been spotted several times nearby but still hasn't been caught.

Her owners say she's friendly and is used to being fed and cared for by humans, so they worry about how she's making out, in the wild.

Sheldon is about the size of a large dinner plate, and has little notches on her shell from running into the refrigerator door.

There are several Facebook pages dedicated to finding her. They say she's not used to fending for herself and surely misses her fancy diet.
