MEDIA, Pa. (WPVI) -- Dozens of people took advantage of a Black Friday deal of a different kind at the Delaware County SPCA.

"We're hoping 50 animals will be placed into forever homes today," said Justina Calgiano, Delco SPCA.

There were Black Friday specials on dogs seven months and older. At noon, several breeds of puppies went on sale.

Organizers kicked off the event with the adoption of Pearl the pit bull.

A month ago, she was featured on Action News after she was rescued from a Chester backyard weighing only 20 pounds.

Darrel Leary and his mom saw her on TV too.

"I fell in love with her right away," said Darrel Leary.

Pearl gave goodbye kisses and went home with the Learys, one of dozens of families vying for the sick pup.

"It really gives us hope any animal can be rehabilitated. We see the worst of the worst here - to see a story like Pearl's just tells us to never give up hope," said Calgiano.

"The SPCA did an amazing job with her. She looked like she wasn't going to make it now she looks like a healthy puppy," said Donna Leary.

While Pearl has found a forever home, there are still plenty of other healthy pets you can adopt at the Delaware County SPCA.

"We're one of the few shelters that have puppies for adoption and we have a great 50 percent coupon for adoption that goes through the end of November," said Calgiano.
