MELBOURNE, Fla. -- A duck named Sergio stole the show at an elementary school graduation ceremony in Florida.

In Central Florida, some ducks swim in the lakes, some fly in for the winter and others graduate elementary school.

Sergio the duck is more than a class pet. He's a brother to graduating sixth graders at Suntree Elementary.

The friends call each other the "Sergio Squad."

"Everyone is going to miss Sergio a lot," said Sergio Squad member Julia Audino.

Suntree sixth graders typically hatch chicken eggs during the school year, but this year's class ducked out of tradition and went fowl.

"He's the only one who hatched," said Sergio Squad member Thomas Tibbets.

They started with 40 eggs but only one, miracle duckling, hatched.

"Since he was so cute and he's the only one who hatched and he's like 'the miracle duck,' we decided to keep him," said Audino.

Sergio has his own Instagram account.

Some of the students say they'll come back to visit Sergio next year.
