WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- This week's winning rescue group in 6abc's Shelter Me contest is the Faithful Friends Animal Society in Wilmington, Delaware.

"Faithful Friends is about 14 years young, and we started because there's a high kill rate in Delaware," said Faithful Friends' Executive Director Jane Pierantozzi.

Every year the rescue finds homes for more than 800 homeless animals.

"We're a no-kill shelter, so we really value dignity and respect of all the animals that come through our door," said Pierantozzi.

And the shelter's priority is to make sure every animal finds a loving home, even what they call the "misfits."

Just like Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys, this week's featured animal rescue has some misfit pets, ready for their forever home.

"If you remember Rudolph and Misfit Island, we have some misfits here - some dogs or cats that are a little harder to adopt because they have special needs," said Pierantozzi. "So for misfits, we'll have a waived fee."

By the way, during the holidays ALL cats and kittens have a lower fee of $25.

Among the misfits here? Mario, a playful and affectionate cat.

"He likes to play with other cats, but they don't necessarily like him cause he plays really rough," said Pierantozzi.

Harley takes a while to warm up to people, but with the right person he'll make a great dog.

And of course Faithful Friends has plenty of problem-free pets.

Alana and Casanova are "lovable," said Pierantozzi. "They would make really great kittens for a family."

Jade is a 9-year-old loveable lap cat who would enjoy a quiet home.

Farah is two years old and full of tricks.

"She just learned how to give paw and do high five," said Pierantozzi.

Rufus and Lulu are best buds and would prefer to be adopted together. "Lulu's Miss Independent and social, and Rufus is a little bit dependent on her and a little quieter," said Pierantozzi.

"Neo is about 5 years old he's just very, very loving with people," Pierantozzi continued. "He'd be a great companion. He would be a good walking partner."
