PHILADELPHIA -- An adopted dog finds a match made in heaven and gets to play a part in a wedding ceremony.

When Carla Weaver and her husband walked down the aisle, their rescue dog Ruby was the ring-bearer.

It was an animal rescue themed wedding and Ruby shared the day with her forever family.

Carla says, "She was like our child, so we wanted her to be a part of it."

The newlyweds even made sure she was part of the reception.

"We also had a drink named after her, it was the ruby red martini," said Carla.

Carla adopted Ruby in September 2009 from the Animal Care and Control Team of Philadelphia or ACCT.

"The volunteers and the staff are just amazing. They really work tirelessly to get these animals adopted," said Carla.

Communications and Development Specialist, Ame Dorminy added, "I'm impressed that the dog was able to be a part of the ceremony. She must be a really well behaved dog."

That training starts with an army of ACCT volunteers.

"We have a program called the pen pal program. We work one on one with dogs to give them all sorts of important doggy life skills. That really helps dogs transition into their adoptive homes," said Ame.

She hopes more marriages can be made for other dogs too.
