WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. -- This week's winning rescue group is Direct Animal Welfare Network in Williamstown, New Jersey.

Director, Dawn Krulikoski says, "We don't do dogs and cats because there are so many other shelters that do."

Direct Animal Welfare Network is dedicated to rescuing the exotic pets.

"It's the reptiles, it's the sugar glider and the chinchillas and the um, even ferrets are classified as exotics.

People get these pets and they get them with the best intentions and they take very good care but then the novelty wears off," said Dawn.

And when the novelty wears off and it does, many of these animals get abandoned.

Dawn says, "There's really no place for exotic animals to go. We don't want people to let them go or to just give up on them and just lock them away in a room. We are here to help."

Because the rescue specializes in unusual animals, they don't adopt them out, instead they find fosters for life.
