PARKSIDE (WPVI) -- Police are searching for the driver in a hit-and-run crash Monday evening in the city's Parkside section that has left a man in critical condition.

The accident happened around 6 p.m. Monday at the intersection of 41st Street and Parkside Avenue.

The victim, 65-year-old James Wilson, is active in the neighborhood and works at a community center.

Wilson and his brother were walking across Parkside Avenue from his apartment to his car when the car hit him, throwing him up in the air.

Family members said Wilson is currently in the ICU at Penn Presbyterian Hospital. They are unsure if he will pull through.

"You literally hit him and knocked him in the air, where fluid has leaked out of your car, and now he goes up and down in the air and you still leave?" said the victim's daughter, Dena Wilson Street. "You know you hit him."

Street said you could actually see the skid marks from where this car took off out of the opposite lane.

Philadelphia police confirmed that the driver fled the scene.

Wilson's brother also had to run out of the way of the car and was not able to get a description of the car.

Wilson's daughter hopes that whoever is responsible will do the right thing and turn themselves in.

"An apology will work," she said. "At least an apology, because you can't do anything else."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Philadelphia police.
