DNC arrives in Philly next week, along with extreme heat

It's the Democrats turn to put on a show. They will be here in Philadelphia next week.

The city will have to handle protesters, police and people taking on the sights of Philadelphia.

That includes PoliticalFest, which will be held at the National Constitution Center, beginning at 10 a.m. Friday until 6 p.m., and all next week.

There are also six other locations across the city.

It's good to know these locations for visitors, because this bi-partisan exhibit is going to be a great place to beat the heat.

Most of the locations have air conditioning.

It is about to get really hot in the City of Brotherly Love. And we are not just talking about the convention.

On Friday, expect temperatures in the 90s.

Monday, the humidity could be the worse in the city has felt in four years.

And, it's just in time to showcase the city to tourists, delegates and political enthusiasts.

Action News got a sneak peek of PolticalFest that starts Friday.

Cultural and political exhibits will be on display across the city, which also includes the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Each location will have a special theme. And there are good spots to get away from the heat.

Expect protests to increase in the coming days. More than 20 permits have been issued, and more could be granted.

The city is concerned about protesters and the officers protecting them.

They will provide pellets of water areas without water access.

Hydrant spray caps will be along the demonstration routes, and misting locations will be at FDR Park.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross says, "The heat is going to be excessive next week. We are concerned about everybody involved. The police officers standing on those lines as well as the protesters. Some of whom may over estimate their ability to walk in some of those demonstrations."
