Action News anchor Matt O'Donnell talks with Donald Trump

PHILDELPHIA (WPVI) -- Donald Trump returned to the city where he went to business school to meet with African-Americans, a community whose support has been dismal.

And spoke to Action News anchor Matt O'Donnell about why they should reconsider his candidacy.

"What do you have to lose, I actually tell people, I'll fix it. I will fix these problems," Trump said. "And these folks reached out to me."

Some in the community are suspicious of Trump because he spent several weeks questioning President Obama's birthplace.

Matt O'Donnell asked, "You don't talk about the birth certificate anymore. Do you regret even bringing it up?"

"I don't talk about it anymore. I told you, I don't talk about it anymore," Trump said.

Trump said Mayor Jim Kenney is doing a horrible job when it comes to making Philadelphia a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants, but agrees with a policy that has recently been employed by the Philadelphia police.

"The African American community is suspect about it because they believe it is racial profiling. What would you tell them?," O'Donnell asked.

"Well, I think you're going to have to have it, so many people are being killed in Philadelphia, that it's actually incredible when you look at the stats. I think you have to have it. We had it in New York," Trump said.

Trump stands by his claim that losing Pennsylvania would mean the other side cheated.

"So by saying there would be cheating involved, why would the person who is ahead engage in cheating against the person who is behind?" O'Donnell asked.

"Well, it's obvious. They want to make sure they win, wouldn't you think so? I mean, give me a break," Trump responded.

And had no quarrel with Republican Senator Pat Toomey, who is running a tight reelection campaign - and refuses to say whether he will vote for Trump.

"I'm worried about my race. Pat Toomey, obviously he wants to be out there by himself, and that's fine," said Trump.

Philadelphia is a heavily Democratic city. 1988 was the last time a Republican won the state of Pennsylvania.

The 6abc Franklin and Marshall Poll has Trump behind Clinton by 7 points. And yet, Trumps believes he will be able to close the gap.
