New Jersey revenue running ahead of projections

TRENTON, N.J. -- State data shows New Jersey's government revenue was above Gov. Chris Christie's administration's projections for the first half of the fiscal year.

The Record used an open records request to obtain data from the state treasury showing the state government's revenue projections.

The data shows the state was $180 million ahead of projections as of Dec. 31.

It's not clear that the news will make budgeting for the coming year any easier.

The state brings in a large portion of its revenue through taxes due in April.

Officials also have previously said that a windfall from an initiative to collect back taxes boosted collections for December.

Christie is scheduled to propose a new budget on Feb. 24.
