RHAWNHURST (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are investigating a display of anti-Semitism at a Rhawnhurst synagogue.

Crews power-washed away two swastikas at Congregation Ner Zedek-Ezreth Monday afternoon.

A group found the offensive marks at the synagogue located at Bustleton and Oakmont when they arrived for Monday worship.

Leaders say this is especially distressing for the synagogue's Holocaust survivors, but it impacts the entire community.

"This type of action does not promote a good society; it does not promote peace. It only drives people apart and away from each other," Rabbi Reuben Abraham said.

Vandals have painted swastikas on the synagogue before.

A rock was thrown through a window about 6 weeks ago.

Leaders hope police will be able to use footage from new surveillance cameras installed just last week.
