Senior citizen stabbed inside Allentown apartment: Walter Perez reports on Action News at 4 p.m., October 31, 2017

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the stabbing of a senior citizen inside his Allentown apartment.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, when a delivery driver was dropping off a package at the Allentown home of Matilde Malave.

The front door was open and when that delivery person looked inside, he found a 68-year-old Malave on the floor and bleeding profusely.

The delivery man yelled for help and that's when next-door neighbor Julia Rodriguez came running over, called 911, and held Malave's hand until paramedics arrived.

"I asked him who did it," Rodriguez said, as translated by Action News reporter Walter Perez. "He answered by saying some young guy who rang his doorbell and asked for a cigarette."

That's when the attacker pulled out a knife, stabbed Mr. Malave repeatedly, ripped a gold chain from his neck and ran away.

Mrs. Rodriguez added that Matilde is a very laid back kind of person and she couldn't imagine why anyone would do such a thing.

Other neighbors we spoke with agreed.

"When I'd see him we would wave," Adele Barnes, neighbor. "I saw him a lot during the Summer getting his mail. A really nice guy. He was really quiet."

Malave was transported to Saint Luke's Hospital where he is listed in stable condition after undergoing surgery.
