MANAYUNK (WPVI) -- Good Friday is great for sales at Shane Confectionery in Old City.

They've been preparing for Easter since January.

Clear toy candy, sacks of sweets, chocolate bunnies big and small. Don't forget the handmade buttercream eggs in vanilla, coconut, or peanut butter. You can customize them if you wish.

"Favorites are definitely the coconut buttercream eggs. Penny eggs, as well as the big buttercream eggs you can slice open and share with your family," Christine Salvadore of Shane Confectionery said.

The customers are just as excited.

"I got my mother a buttercream egg from Shane's, she loves them. I have to label it or my dad will eat it," Jerry May of Bridesburg said.

R&R Produce on the corner of Aramingo and Allegheny in Port Richmond is ready for the crowds.

Easter is a huge holiday for them. Color blooms all in a row. Hyacinth, tulips, and geraniums are particularly popular for centerpieces or gifts.

"Easter is a time of rebirth; they were dirt and now they're beautiful flowers," Paul Scally of Burholme said.

At Marchiano's in Manayunk, bakers were busy stuffing and wrapping cheesesteak breads. Their wide variety of specialty breads are customers' favorites.

Mary Antrim of Roxborough is a regular, she just gets extra for the holidays.

"I'm here every week. Tomato pies are great, the breads, excellent, and they're so nice," Antrim said.

Tomato pies, ricotta pies, bunny and chick cakes. The shelves are stocked and the options mouthwatering.

"Our pepper and egg specialty bread is probably the popular selling item at this time of year. Oreganata Bread is traditional Italian bread filled with Italian spices and oil and as far as we know, the only people who commercially sell it in the United States," Daneen Marchiano said.

These shops are expecting another busy day Saturday, then Sunday it's time for family.
