VIDEO: Price tags can offer clues to a great deal
The key to saving big can be looking at the clues on the little price tag!

As you check off your holiday shopping lists, we have a secret little savings tip for all of you bargain sleuths out there.

The key to saving big can be looking at the clues on the little price tag!

Shopping guru Kyle James took ABC News on a hidden camera tour to teach us how to read between the lines.

For instance, in Target the teeny number in the right hand corner indicates the percentage off the original price.

At Kohl's, the letters NM stand for "new markdown," BB mean "bonus buy" - the price won't stay that low, and GVB is "great value," which won't last for more than two days.

At Costco, prices ending in .97 and an asterisk mean it's a clearance item.

At Home Depot, look for the yellow tags. James says .06 means 6 weeks until the next markdown, 03 - three weeks. So if you can wait, you will save.

And by the way, red clearance tags don't mean the lowest prices... so don't be fooled!
