PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- If you need some extra encouragement to exercise, there's an app for that - and one that will make your wallet happy too!

Whether you're a workout fiend or you want to be, this app is for you.

It's called Vea Fitness and it rewards you for exercising. But what makes this app even sweeter? The company behind it is based right here in Philadelphia.

When Rachel Rubin exercises, her body and mind are not only reaping the rewards, but so is her wallet.

"Whatever type of exercise you're choosing to do - running, biking, walking, going to the gym, checking in at a studio for a class - you go right to the app and select the activity you want to do and then you click start activity," she said.

Then the Vea Fitness app does its work.

It calculates and tracks your exercise through GPS and when you've completed your fitness activity...

"Right on the bottom, there's a menu. There's rewards. Pick your reward, redeem your coupon," said Rachel.

Rewards include a free bottle of Core water for running 2 miles, a free tank top for running 3 miles, six free protein bars from Thrive Market, and 15-percent off New Balance running shoes.

Jonathan Maxim designed the Vea Fitness app and says it's not just about getting discounts and freebies, the app is a great way to keep your own personal fitness diary.

It also has a social feed and you can join group challenges where the rewards range from $500 to $1,000 dollars.

"It's definitely a lot of fun. We're trying to bring the fun out of fitness and really bringing the community together," he said.

Rachel is such a fan, she is now hosting her own Beat the Heat fitness challenge on the app, which begins August 3rd.
