PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A great place to celebrate the fourth is here in Philadelphia - the birthplace of freedom.

On Monday, Wawa continued Fourth of July celebrations by celebrating everyday heroes at the new museum of the American Revolution which honors some of the nation's oldest heroes.

Lt. Evelyn Cintron, Police Athletic League said, "They are someone that the kids are as a father figure or mother figure or big sister. It's about the relationships they build."

The Police Athletic League focuses on youth enrichment and educational programs that run through the summer.

Mayor Jim Kenney was in attendance as PAL was presented with a $10,000 check by Wawa.

Meanwhile, Performers were doing sound checks just a couple of blocks away for Other Fourth of July festivities on independence mall for Philadelphia's Historic Block Party.

At 5pm Monday, The Kimmel Center for Performing Arts will also grace the stage with a celebration of musical theater "Broadway Philadelphia on Independence Mall."

Maria McNichols of Roxborough said, "We are going to hang out here. We are going to do the block party, that's what you do on the 4th of July."
