Bridge Improvements in Delaware City

DELAWARE CITY, Del. (WPVI) -- A bridge project in Delaware aimed at making travel safer is upsetting some drivers and business owners.

Work is underway on a new bridge that will carry Delaware Highway 9 over the Delaware City Branch Channel.

But the improvement comes with a closure which means the drive from Port Penn to Delaware City will be a longer commute.

Businesses like the Kathy Crab House say the construction and closure are preventing customers from easily getting to them.

The 85 year old Delaware City Bridge has been closed in connection with the work.

The project is expected to cost three million dollars.
