Jim Brown, a vietnam vet, is making sure that pride in our country and our service members flies with dignity (WPVI)

He's one of many local veterans who have served our country with valor and selflessness, and Friday, Jim Brown, a vietnam vet, is single-handedly making sure that pride in our country and our service members flies with dignity in Delaware.

Brown spent the morning replacing all of the military service flags and the American flag at the town of Newport's Bicentennial Memorial Park.

He says the flags were tattered and torn, and his fellow vets at VFW Post 615 pitched in to purchase new flags, and he restrung each one, by hand.

These flags here should have been taken care of a long time ago. I don't know who is in charge anymore but someone needs to step up and let us know. We are changing some flags, all of the military flags are worn out.
In fact the air force flag is gone and the rope holding it up

The town of Newport is helping with that one, it's replacing the rigging for that air force flag, and adding new POW and Delaware state flags as well.

Brown's VFW post hosts a Pearl Harbor Day Memorial Ceremony at the park every year, so keeping it in pristine shape is especially important to them.
