Cats looking for new homes

CLAYTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- The Gloucester County animal shelter says they are over capacity after more than 100 cats were rescued from a hoarder's home in Pitman last week.

The organization says they generally have room for 140 cats, but are taking care of more than 230.

The shelter is so crowded that some of the cats are being kept in dog cages.

Animal Control Chief Owen Sturm is optimistic about the cats future "Very very stressed out. I mean they're being stripped of the only environment they know. as the days progress they're starting to get used to it. they're seeing that the hands that are reaching for them aren't harming them."

To encourage cat adoptions the shelter is offering reduced rates.

25 dollars if you adopt one of the cats taken from the Pitman hoarding house.
