NEWARK, Del. (WPVI) -- A 14-year-veteran of the Delaware State Police has been laid to rest.

Hundreds of state troopers gathered at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark to pay their respects to Sgt. Rodney Bond Jr.

Sergeant Rodney H. Bond Jr., a 14-year-veteran of the Delaware State Police, died unexpectedly near his home Friday evening. He was 40-years-old.

The 40-year-old died after he collapsed during a run near his home on Friday night.

Bond leaves behind a wife, and three children.

He was also a member of the Delaware State Police Honor Guard.
