Discovery Center Groundbreaking

FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- A world-class outdoor education center is being built in Fairmount Park.

Mayor Kenney, many city council members, and local non profits gathered for the big ground breaking Friday afternoon.

The center will be at the old East Park Reservoir, which is now abandoned.

The area has since become home to all times of wildlife, including migrating birds.

37 acres will be preserved as part of the project, which is being led by the Audubon society and the Philadelphia Outward Bound School.

The grand opening is scheduled for next spring.
