Elks Lodge in Marlton provides help for Harvey victims
Elks Lodge in Marlton provides help for Harvey victims. Annie McCormick reports during Action News at 4 p.m. on August 30, 2017.

The Elks Lodge in Marlton, Burlington County had to change its plans after a large number of donations to help Hurricane Harvey victims came in.

"It's what the Elks do. The Elks share and the Elks care," George Tencza said.

Tencza got the call for help from the Texas Elks on Monday.

Wednesday morning he knew he needed something bigger than an RV since the donations here at the Marlton Elks Lodge are pouring in.

"I'm panicking, so last night I found out more people are coming, and how am I going to get this down there. This morning I called Miller Truck leasing, they are Elks out of Mount Holly and they brought the truck that just got here," Tencza said.

Angelo Breaux of Family and Company Jewelers said, "The response has been overwhelming."

Breaux's is an Elk too. His business, family and company jewelers is one of several drop off sights for the Elks drive.

The help for Harvey continues in South Jersey for pets too, not far from the Elks at the Animal Welfare Association in Voorhees. Eight dogs from Texas are up for adoption this weekend. All have new names that start with the letter H, yes there is a Harvey.

They are part of a group of eighty shelter animals flown into New Jersey from Texas last night. Action News was there as the pets arrived safely.

Stacie Dabolt, Director of Operations of the Animal Welfare Association of Voorhees said, "This is actually a very important part of the process because you are alleviating, clearly out shelters that are going to be inundated or overwhelmed by so many animals coming in either by owners that can't hold on to them or by owners that have strays."

The shelters in Texas will either be holding animals for owners who can't care for them now or reuniting families who separated.

The Elks here are now in touch with Animal Welfare Association to share donated dog food.
