VIDEO: Kids given free coats for the cold weather
Action news reporter Katherine Scott has the story.

Several Philadelphia elementary school children took a special field trip Thursday to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and what awaited them there were unexpected gifts that they'll definitely need this winter season.

They come in all different sizes and all different colors, but the coats do have a few things in common. They keep you warm in the winter, and for these children they are all free.

The Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia CARing for Kids Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Philadelphia Auto Show, had trunk-loads of coats at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

During the month of October more than 37,000 new coats will be delivered to underprivileged children in the five-county area as part of their Driving Away the Cold Program.

6,000 are going to children in the Philadelphia School District, and that was something to cheer about.

172 area auto dealers pledged a brand new winter coat for every time a vehicle was sold at their dealership in September. And today you could see the difference their pledge makes.
