When it comes time to dress up for Halloween, you could put on something generic, or you could rack your brain for a unique DIY costume and line up for the costume contest on the Live with Kelly Halloween special.

Audience members put their creative juices into their creations for this year's contest at the Live with Kelly studio in New York City.

Some contestants came up with one-of-a-kind ideas and have spent months preparing.

"Since the end of June, beginning of July, anytime I had down time," said one contestant, Shelby from New Jersey, who was dressed as a farmer trapped in a chicken coup after her chickens rebelled.

The winner was a modern take on It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! that incorporated screens and moving parts. It runs on 88 batteries, the contestant said.
