21-year-old Cheyenne Merritt of East Lansdowne recently won the amateur night competition at the Apollo in New York City.

EAST LANSDOWNE, Pa. (WPVI) -- 21-year-old Cheyenne Merritt of East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania recently won the amateur night competition at the Apollo in New York City.

Merritt was able to qualify for the winners' elimination competition.

The singer is taking advantage of the spotlight.

She says, "...I try to humble myself and take advantage of the experience and kind of just embrace every moment," said Cheyenne.

Merritt heads back to the Apollo on Wednesday.
