ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (WPVI) -- The Jersey shore will be the place to be this holiday weekend, and folks have already started arriving to get an early jump on the boardwalk and the beach.

The taffy is stocked, the water ice is cold, and the beaches are hot! Shore towns are ready for you to come down and enjoy your Memorial Day weekend.

On Friday morning in Ventnor, the boardwalk was bustling with people out for their walks, runs, and rides, among the first activities on their packed agendas.

"I'm going to walk every morning, walk about 10 miles every day," said Fausto Garafalo.

"We're just playing it by ear. There's a lot to do, there really is!" said Roxane Hydock.

Heather and Rob Barg were out for a walk with their five-month-old twins. They come here each year to kick off the season, but things are a little different now.

"We'd probably be going for a bike ride or run. Now we're trying to get them to take a nap on their stroller!" Heather said.

From Ventnor to Brigantine, crews were out readying the beaches for the coming crowds. The sea breeze provides a little break from the heat, whether you're enjoying the sand or the surf.

Over in Atlantic City, the boardwalk was filling up, and that's welcome news to this city that's been wracked with financial troubles.

"Atlantic City needs it. We're struggling down here. Hopefully a nice summer weather-wise so everyone benefits," said Luke Gaudagnino.

With the sun shining, the beach beckoning, the boardwalk buzzing, there's plenty to see and do.
