Philadelphia Streets Department announces Christmas tree recycling program

Once again Philadelphia residents have a way to recycle their Christmas trees now that the holiday has passed.

For the 27th year, the Streets Department is running its Christmas Tree Recycling Program, beginning Monday, Jan. 4, and running through Saturday, Jan. 16.

Those who wish to drop off their trees to be recycled may take them to the Streets Department Sanitation Convenience Centers which are open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the following locations:

  • 3033 S. 63rd Street
  • Domino Lane & Umbria Street
  • State Road & Ashburner Street
  • 2601 W. Glenwood Avenue
  • 5100 Grays Avenue
  • 3901 N. Delaware Avenue
  • There will also be 23 designated locations to drop off Christmas trees throughout the city from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9 and 16.

    The Streets Department asks that residents untie the trees and remove all decorations. Christmas trees with decorations cannot be recycled.

    For those that cannot participate in the recycling program, trees placed at the curb will be picked up on regularly scheduled collection day as trash.
