30,000 competitors are expected to take part in Saturday's Rothman 8k and Sunday's Philadelphia Marathon races.

Nearly two-thousand people began running on the Ben Franklin Parkway Saturday morning for the annual Rothman Institute 8K.

The race kicked off around 7:30 a.m.

It's the precursor for Sunday's main event, the Philadelphia Marathon.

Action News meteorologist, Cecily Tynan took part in today's race.

The Rothman Institute 8k and Philadelphia Marathon are causing plenty of road closures by the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
