Scholarship surprise
The Ronald McDonald House Charities awarded a high school senior at work

EGG HARBOR, N.J. (WPVI) -- The Ronald McDonald House Charities awarded 55 high school seniors from our region with college scholarships, and one of the winners was surprised with the good news at work.

Maria Torres was greeted with a $5,000 dollar check when she walked into the McDonald's in Egg Harbor.

She was chosen for the scholarship for her community involvement, financial need and of course, her academic achievement.

Maria is proud of her efforts to win the scholarship "You know, A'S, maybe like one B here and there but there are pretty good. My community service part really helped me and just working here all through my school year really helped me win the scholarship."

Torres was picked earlier this year as the 20-17 McDonald's Crew Person of the Year in the Philadelphia region.

She will attend Stockton University in the fall and wants to be a nurse, congratulations.
