SPRING GARDEN (WPVI) -- Residents of a Philadelphia senior living facility staged a seated protest, blocking an intersection in Spring Garden.

It happened before 7:00 a.m. Tuesday on Fairmount Avenue at 11th Street.

Chopper 6 HD was overhead as residents from Gladys B. Jacobs Manor, a Philadelphia Housing Authority (PHA) development designated for adults over 55, blocked the intersection sitting in wheelchairs and portable chairs.

Many of the residents could be seen holding up posters.

Action News is told the demonstrators were protesting the removal of an unspecified number of security guards from the development.

The PHA said the contracted security guards are being replaced by PHA police officers.
