Thousands of people paid tribute to the victims of the Las Vegas shooting in the Mojave Desert.

The festival grounds are about 32 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

The participants wrote messages and then lit sky lanterns at the RiSE Festival.

According to the festival's website, the lanterns are 100% biodegradable, and after the event all of the lanterns are retrieved from the surround areas. Pre-existing litter is also collected. The festival's policy is, "Leave It Better Than We Found It."
