Broad Street Run, outdoor festivals highlight a packed weekend around the region. (WPVI)

Kick of your weekend with Cinco de Mayo
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Friday at El Rey. The Center City restaurant is throwing a block party on the 2000 block of Ranstead Street. Enjoy Mexican street fare while listening to a live mariachi band. The event is family-friendly from 1-4 p.m., but the party continues until 11 p.m.

Tis the season for beer gardens
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Pop Up Gardens are blooming. The flagship location at 15th and South Streets opens Friday. The PHS Pop Up Garden features a festive menu, craft brews, specialty cocktails and games.

Let's party on South Street
Saturday is the South Street Spring Festival. The free, all-ages event runs along South Street, from Front to 8th Street, and all along Headhouse Plaza. More than 100 vendors will be set up, and dozens of bands will be playing live music. The festivities run from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Saturday.

Mother's Day comes early at Citizen Bank Park
The Phillies host the Washington Nationals for a weekend series during which they'll be celebrating Mother's Day a week early at the game on Sunday.

N.Y.-Philly rivalry renews in Chester
The New York Red Bulls are in town to face the Union. The game starts at 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Broad Street Run has arrived
The Broad Street Run is Sunday. Spectators will line the sidewalks of Broad Street to cheer on runners as they race 10 miles from Olney to the Navy Yard.

Great strides for a great cause
Across our area, many people will be taking Great Strides to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Great Strides Walks will be held in Wilmington and Allentown on Saturday morning, and Chesterbrook, PA, and Washington Township in N.J. on Sunday morning.
