Peter Zucca has loved baseball for as long as he can remember.

Peter Zucca has loved baseball for as long as he can remember.

"I like to pitch just pretty much the basic stuff, like the four-seam and two-seam," Peter said.

But two years ago, life threw Peter a curve.

Doctors discovered a cancerous tumor in his right leg and had to amputate it above his knee.

"I didn't really feel like I could play baseball again because it was really hard to even learn how to walk again," Peter said.

And yet, nine days post op he was back on the mound, throwing strikes.

Peter has been beating the odds his whole life.

He was first diagnosed with cancer at just 10 months old and at the time, it had spread to his lungs.

"We went for a second opinion on his first birthday and the second opinion had nothing to offer and gave him to months to live. We went home to plan his first and last birthday party and we planned that simultaneously with his funeral," his mother Dawn Zucca said.

She added, "So I guess we should never count Peter out."

More than a decade later, Peter is making a splash, wherever he goes.

He swims competitively, runs, and when he's not in the dugout, he spends his time making a difference.

"My foundation is the Peter Powerhouse Foundation and I started it to improve the lives of kids with cancer," Peter said.

The Peter Powerhouse Foundation hosts blood drives and golf outings, and recently began a national photo campaign with the Red Cross.

'Give blood. Give hope. Give life.'

And in Peter's case, give back.

He is currently cancer free.
