SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Thursday was the final day of Eagles mini-camp before the Birds officially hit the field for training camp in August.

"A lot of people kinda mill in the last day - these guys are fired up about getting out there one more time," said Coach Chip Kelly.

Even in the rain, the Eagles are putting in one final day of work before their six week break.

"The sky is the limit for this team and being apart for these six weeks doesn't mean it's completely off. You got to put the ownness on yourself to work," said Mark Sanchez.

There's still plenty of work to do before their Monday night opener in Atlanta in September.

That's why Coach Kelly is not ready to name starters or even judge his newly constructed team.

"Off-season program - we don't put a lot of stock in terms of making real solid evaluations of where they are. It's about them working and getting better, trying to figure out your strengths and weaknesses, come when we actually put the pads on. Because to make those assessments now is not fair," said Kelly.

Barring a major setback, Sam Bradford and that surgically repaired left knee are expected to be ready to roll next time the Birds take the field.

But don't pencil in Bradford as the started just yet, Sanchez will be ready to compete too.

"You got to be the best guy. The best guy plays, moves the team down the field and gets points. I've done it before and I know I can do it again," said Sanchez.

There's competition is virtually every position and that's how Kelly wants it. His theory is that competition will bring out the best in his players.
