Lafayette College and Lehigh University to battle at Yankee Stadium

College football's most played rivalry will meet for its record-setting 150th game in New York City's iconic Yankee Stadium on Nov. 22, 2014.

Do you know the teams?

It's not Harvard vs. Yale, or Alabama vs. Auburn. It's Lafayette College and Lehigh University, two Division I schools with stellar academic reputations and nationally lauded engineering programs. Separated by 16 miles in eastern Pennsylvania, the two have played what's affectionately known among football aficionados as "The Rivalry," since 1884, one year after standardized football rules were instituted in the U.S.

Much has changed since then, including the invention of the football helmet by Lafayette's George "The Rose" Barclay in 1894, and the forward pass, which Lehigh's Head Coach Howard R. Reiter's is credited with helping develop in the early 1900s.

The Rivalry has continued unabated since 1897 making it not only the "most played rivalry" but the "longest continuously played rivalry series" in college ball. This year marks not only the 150th game, but the 118th consecutive year and only the second time it will be played at a neutral site.

Lafayette leads the series with a record of 77-67-5.
