The Taney Dragons are going to the Little League World Series.

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- The Taney Dragons, from Philadelphia, are headed to the Little League World Series following an impressive victory.

Current, former and future Taney Little League players, along with their coaches, parents and siblings, gathered at MilkBoy in Center City on Sunday.

They gathered to watch Philadelphia's storybook team take on last year's Mid-Atlantic Regional winners, the Newark National Little League.

The winners would head to Williamsport and the Little League World Series and the losers would head home.

Newark was hot off a win over Tom's River on Friday but their bats proved no match for the complete-game pitching of Mo'ne Davis.

While Mo'ne has been the focus of much attention during the Taney Dragons' race to Williamsport, Ellen Siegel, one of league's founders, says it's the mix of children on the team that makes it both unique and successful.

"It's all about the kids and it's all about having them have fun, having them meet kids from other neighborhoods, having them meet kids they never would have met and all pull together," said Siegel.

The game ended in the top of the 6th, with a double play. The Taney Dragons topped Newark National 8-0.

"What a team of destiny it seems like right here. Coming from Philadelphia, couldn't be more proud," said Tim Sheridan.

"It's actually like crazy. I'm actually speechless," said Paige Willis, Taney Softball.

"Crazy, unbelievable, no words. This is amazing," said Naomi Ohayon.

The team also won the Pennsylvania State Championship this year.

Next up, the Dragons will play South Nashville on Friday, August 15th and 3:00 p.m.

The team and their coaches get an all-expense paid trip to Williamsport, but their families will have to raise money to go with them.
