CLEARWATER, Fla. (WPVI) -- The Philadelphia Phillies pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training for the first time Wednesday and that means manager Pete Mackanin will get a look at his brand new starting rotation.

That rotation will feature five new faces that started for the Phillies last April and, on paper, Mackanin likes what he sees.

"It's going to be an interesting spring training because there are so many new names, especially pitchers. It's going to be fun to watch each guy compete and see what they can do. There are a lot of names, but there's a lot of good names, players, pitchers especially who are qualified, have had experience in the past. We've got such a good inventory of pitching now, both at the major league level and AAA and minor league levels now, it's going to make easier in the event we need to reach down and grab somebody. We feel very confident about those pitchers that we have available," Mackanin said.

Mackanin is excited and confident in his young and new rotation. Only time will tell if the Phillies will be more competitive than last year when they finished with the worst record in baseball.
