PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Sam Bradford is in a new city learning to run a new offense - all while recovering from two knee injuries.

But helping the Eagles quarterback through it is a familiar face - Pat Shurmur.

Shurmur was his offensive coordinator back when Bradford was with the St. Louis Rams.

There the quarterback set multiple NFL records and was rookie of the year.

Shurmur still believes in the No. 1 overall pick.

"I can understand all the health questions but we know he has the skill-set to play well and be successful in our offense," said Shurmur.

"I love the tempo, I love how fast we play. I think it fits my style of game - making quick decisions," said Bradford.

Over the course of the last year, Bradford's name would come up in conversation from time to time among the Eagles coaching staff.

When trading for Bradford this off-season became an option, Eagles Coach Chip Kelly asked Shurmur for his input on his former quarterback.

Shurmur told Kelly to go get him.

"I certainly have a strong, good opinion of Sam and what he can accomplish. Had he been able to stay healthy, he wouldn't have been available for us. When the deal was being made, I had my fingers crossed," said Shurmur.

Now Shurmur and the Eagles are crossing their fingers that Bradford can stay healthy. He's missed nearly 50 percent of his starts since coming into the league.
