The Philadelphia Eagles have selected quarterback Carson Wentz as the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

CHICAGO (WPVI) -- It was one year ago when the Philadelphia Eagles selected quarterback Carson Wentz as the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

And Wentz himself can't believe how fast the year went!

"1 year ago I got that call! Crazy how fast it's gone by. Best of luck to those boys waiting to hear their names this weekend! #flyeaglesfly," Wentz tweeted Thursday afternoon.

At the time, all Philadelphia knew of the 6-5 Wentz was that he led North Dakota State to its fifth consecutive FCS title. He passed for 1,651 yards and 17 touchdowns during his senior year that was shortened by a wrist injury. But soon after, the home of the Eagles became Philadelphia, Wentzylvania.

When the Eagles received the No. 2 pick in the 2016 draft in a trade with the Cleveland Browns, Wentz figured he might be going to Philadelphia or to Los Angeles, as the Rams traded up for the No. 1 spot.

"It was exciting," Wentz said. "Obviously you're aware of what the teams kind of need a little bit, and my agents kind of filled me in a little bit. But it was exciting. Anytime there's movement in the draft, it's always fun."

With the first-overall selection, the Rams chose quarterback Jared Goff.

The Philadelphia Eagles have selected quarterback Carson Wentz as the second-overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Goff and Wentz shared the same agency, Rep 1 Sports, and got to know each other when they trained together while preparing for the draft.

"I think our careers will kind of be linked together for forever," Goff said. "But yeah, we're friendly and competitive, just like any other quarterbacks that train together, and had a good time getting to know him." Goff said.

"Hopefully we play each other for a long time," Wentz said at the time.

The last time the Eagles had the second over-all pick in the draft was in 1999 when they selected Donovan McNabb.

This time, the Eagles will have the 14th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft in Philadelphia.
