BRYN MAWR, Pa. (WPVI) -- Kids who have never set foot on a football field are joining old pros this week at The Philadelphia Eagles Heroes Youth Football Camp in Bryn Mawr.
9-year-old Sam Wright wants to be a running back and he came to the right place.
School is out. Camp is in. Sam and many other kids have a week of football to look forward to. No lazy days of summer here.
"I think this will help me with my fundamentals," Sam Wright said.
"I need a football camp to keep me active this summer," Cory Johnson, 14, said.
"I don't really play in an organized league, I'm going to play next year, but I just really like playing football," Declan Murphy, 9, said.
Cleats on, warm-ups under way.
The Philadelphia Heroes Youth Football Camp kicked off Monday morning.
Action News was at the Bryn Mawr site located at Country Day School of the Sacred Heart. Campers are between 6 and 14 years old and some are first-timers.
"I've never played before. I want to learn how to throw and catch," Gus Wright, 7, said.
This is a non-contact camp, no pads needed. Coaches run the campers through drills and instruction. And there will be special guest coaches making appearances in the coming days- former Philadelphia Eagles.
They might have played before some of these kids were born, but these campers are excited to glean whatever knowledge they can give.
"I'm looking forward to meeting retired Eagles," Murphy said.
"The kids might not know who exactly Coach Bergey might be, but dad gets really excited, grandpa gets really excited, 'You met Bill Bergey!'" camp director Al Crosby said.
For some of these kids, it's their first time playing football, and yet they already have a Super Bowl scheduled for Friday. It's expected to be one of the highlights of the week.
"I don't know what team I'm going to be on, but I'm really looking forward to it," Sam Wright said.
