What's the Deal: Recycle your old electronics for cash
What's the Deal: Recycle your old electronics for cash - Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30pm on January 10, 2018.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- You know that we are pretty obsessed with finding hidden cash in your homes and today we're tackling electronics - recycling that old technology for new spending money.

We're talking cell phones, video games, kindles, iPads and laptops - the technology of yesteryear and yesterday.

The website Decluttr.com did a survey and found that the average family has around $264 worth of unused technology collecting dust.

So how can you turn those dusty tech toys into cold, hard cash?

First, Decluttr offers cash back for anything from phones to gaming systems. There are few other sites and apps that do the same, so shop around.

Also, you can always name your own price on eBay, Craigslist or the Facebook Marketplace.

Some electronics stores or cell phone providers might offer you a gift card for your old devices.

If you don't like the cash-back offer you get or you can't sell it, you can always recycle it...the right way.

Call2Recycle has a list of collection sites that responsibly recycle old tech.

And finally, remember before you send your devices anywhere to make sure to back up all your information on a cloud or a hard drive and clear your personal information off the devices.
