You can now block offensive comments and spam on Instagram
You can now block offensive comments and spam on Instagram: Alicia Vitarelli reports during Action News at 4:30 p.m. on June 29, 2017.

More hearts - less haters. That's the new agenda for Instagram.

The social networking site can now automatically block offensive comments and spam.

But you do have to give them the okay.

In the settings section, tap "comments" and slide the tab for "Hide Offensive Comments."

The new filters automatically block "certain offensive comments" and spam in nine languages.

Instagram says it's a way to try to make it safer and friendlier and it applies to everyone, everyday users like us and celebrities.

Stars have been very vocal about wanting more content screening to weed out offensive comments, especially because sometimes they are hardly appropriate for the eyes of young fans.
