WILMINGTON, Del. (WPVI) -- A car slammed into the back of a trash truck in the northbound lanes of I-495 in Wilmington, Delaware on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened shortly before 3 p.m. on the Christiana River Bridge.

Police say a 48-year-old woman operating a Nissan Maxima was traveling in the right northbound lane on the up-slope.

They say she failed to see a trash truck which was disabled on the bridge.

The front of the Maxima then slammed into the truck and became lodged underneath.

The victim was treated by paramedics on the scene, and then taken to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

It's not clear if the male operator of the trash truck was injured.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for about an hour.
