PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- An overnight construction project on the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) caused major headaches well into the Tuesday morning rush hour.

Chopper 6 HD was over the eastbound lanes of I-76 near Montgomery Drive, where crews were using a crane to work on overhead signs.

The work did not wrap up by 5 a.m., as it was supposed to.

Eastbound traffic on the expressway was backed up all the way to the Gladwyne exit for well over an hour.

And secondary delays were reported on the southbound Roosevelt Boulevard Extension (Rt. 1).

The crane finally left a little after 6 a.m.

The work was expected to resume Tuesday night.
