MARPLE TWP., Pa. (WPVI) -- Work crews were out on Monday inspecting storm drains after clogs led to flooding on Interstate 476 during the morning rush.

The highway was closed for more than an hour just as the AM commute began.

"They had both sides shut down. It was flooded out, all the lanes," said Peter Scerati of PennDOT.

We caught up with Scetari and his PennDOT crew as they cleared drains along the Schuylkill Expressway.

With more rain in the foreseeable future, PennDOT wants to prevent more of this, so dozens of drains are being inspected.

"Anywhere between 25 and 50. We want to hit the crucial spots, the low spots, because that's where all the debris winds up and flooding occurs," said Scetari.

You can help PennDOT keep the drains clear by not tossing trash out of your car window. That trash makes its way toward the drains, leading to clogs.
