BRIDESBURG (WPVI) -- Flooding caused by a gushing fire hydrant shut down several blocks in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia.

It began before 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Action News is told a truck struck a hydrant in the 4700 block of Richmond Street, sending thousands of gallons of water gushing into the street.

First responders shut down Richmond Street between Lefevre and Kirkbride streets as crews worked to shut off water.

The 2700 block of Jenks Street and the 2800 block of Ash Street were also closed.

Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes.
