One person is dead after a crash involving a tractor trailer and an SUV that shut down the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) for several hours overnight.

FAIRMOUNT PARK (WPVI) -- One person is dead after an accident involving a tractor trailer and an SUV that shut down the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) for several hours overnight.

The crash happened at 11:30 p.m. Monday in the eastbound lanes, just east of the Montgomery Drive exit.

Pennsylvania State Police say the driver of an SUV hit a concrete barrier and was thrown from the vehicle.

A tractor trailer then rear-ended the SUV, sending it forward and causing it to roll over.

The driver the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no immediate word on what led the driver of the SUV to lose control.

Police do not believe the driver of the tractor trailer will be charged.

All lanes were back open by 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.
