Multi-vehicle crash on Route 55 in Franklin Township

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (WPVI) -- A multi-vehicle crash caused delays on Route 55 in Franklin Township, New Jersey early Friday.

It happened at 5:45 a.m. in the northbound lanes past the Route 40 exit.

Police tell Action News the crash involved a dump truck carrying sand, a motorcycle and 4 other vehicles.

One person was airlifted to an area hospital with injuries said to be serious.

There was no immediate word on the number or extent of any other injuries.

The crash intermittently shut down all northbound lanes of Route 55, causing a major backup.

All lanes were open again by late Friday morning.
