An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was injured in a car crash in the Chestnut Hill section early Tuesday morning.

GERMANTOWN (WPVI) -- An off-duty Philadelphia police officer was injured in a car crash in the city's Chestnut Hill section.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on the 9500 block of Germantown Avenue.

Police tell Action News the officer lost control, hit a tree and wound up trapped in the vehicle near a fence.

First responders extricated the officer.

Medics took him to an area hospital to be treated for injuries said to be minor.

The crash remains under investigation.
